I hadn’t done the oblitory post by runners of the end results of the previous year of running and then onto the next year’s goals. The main reason for this is that given my last post… I hadn’t finished logging in my numbers. I use two places… Buckeye Outdoors and an offline Trusty Rusty spreadsheet. But now that I have finished putting in December 2008 into my spreadsheet, I can break down some of what I did in RY08 (Running Year).

Mileage By Month:

January 39.32 (in 10 runs)
February 13.68 (in 5 runs)
March 40.83 (in 12 runs)
April 30.2 (in 10 runs)
May 45.09 (in 10 runs)
June 25.84 (in 10 runs)
July 7.41 (in 3 runs)
August 69.3 (in 14 runs)
September 87.85 (in 13 runs)
October 104.2 (in 11 runs)
November 79.95 (in 7 runs)
December 13 (in 2 runs)
Total 556.7

Races:

Calhoun’s 10 mi
Spring Sprint 5k
Ribbon Run 5k
Trideltathon (400 m swim, 6 m-bike, 3.0 m)
Run for the Deaf 5k
Expo 10 k
Fireball Classic 5k
Scholar’s Run 5k
Big South Fork Trail Run 17.5 mi

Worldwide Festival of Races Half Marathon
Rutledge Marathon
Flying Monkey Marathon

Other Notes:

November at 79.95 miles was a record November since I started recording my runs in 1999

In Terms of overall mileage, 2008 was 5th out of 10 years of data and higher than the yearly average of the previous years (507 miles) of running.

Sometime in Late October, I crossed the 5,000 mile mark of logged miles

And if this isn’t one of those “Do as I Say, Not as I Do” cases: When I ran my two marathons in November, I only had two weeks in which my weekly mileage was over 30 miles (Sept 15th week – 30.90 miles and Oct 6th week – 31.40 miles) all the other weeks were mid-20s. Imagine if I ever really trained for a marathon… like stuck to schedule…

I logged in a total of 572.4 miles for 2007. It was the second most mileage next to 2006′s total of 665.4 and about 8 miles more than the 3rd highest year (2002) of 564.55. It was the 4th time that I broke the 500 mile mark for any one Calendar year.

I ran only 8 races last year, the lowest since I started running in 1998. I did not place in my age group for any of the races, but I did acheive a Personal Record time of 4:08:39 for the marathon at the Chickamauga Marathon (November).

During the year, I used 6 different shoes for running. 2 of which reached the “retired” status and have been put out to pasture.

I had only 1 run (non-race) that was over 10 miles, it was a 20.25 mile training run. All other training runs were 8.4 miles or less. Although, there were days were I ran twice and had a cumulative day mileage of over 10 miles.

Coldest Run that I had recorded data for was 30F at the Strawplains Half Marathon (February).
Hottest Run was in 95F degree weather for a 4 mile run with Soon To Be Dr. David (August).

I had the most single running sessions in October with 19 and the least amount in April with 3 (Pleural Rub injury). My highest mileage month was October with 100.5 miles, marking the second time that I broke the 100 mile marker for any given month.

2005 was a lean running year for me in a number of different ways. First of all, I only ran 8 races the entire year which is 3 less than 2003 when I ran 11 races. I finished with 452.2 miles which makes 2005 my second to least amount of miles run since I started logging my miles in 1999. I was able to run on 88 different occasions with all but 2 runs (races) being in the State of Tennessee. I was also able to run in South Carolina (Myrtle Beach Marathon) and Georgia (Chickamauga 10 miler).

Accomplishments
Probably the biggest accomplishment was my First Place age group finish at the Run For the Deaf 5k. Considering that it had not been long since I had been back from Pneumonia, I still raced a hard race and benefited from competition in my Age Group running at another local race.

Running Blunders
During the Chickamauga 10 miler, I got a little off course and managed to run over 18 miles. Most of this was my fault. Shame on me for not knowing the correct start time for the 10 milers nor knowing the course.
