Weekend Update (so long Jimmy Fallon)

09.27.04 – Weekend Update (so long Jimmy Fallon)
In some cases it seemed that the weekend went slowly and other times it seemed like it went fast. Funny how time is relative!

Saturday morning I got up around 5:45 and finally made it out to run at 6:15ish. I ran 10.25 miles around Farragut with a pretty fast time of 1:31, averaging an 8:58 pace. This is a whole minute faster per mile than I should have been going, but I wasn’t too upset. If my speed workouts (on Thursdays) aren’t going that great, I am getting some benefits from them. The run on Saturday was very easy, and I was not sore at all on Sunday. This weekend, I have the Big South Fork 17.5 mile Trail Run. We usually go camping this weekend, but because of Mary Kay and Eric logistics, we felt that it was better to forego the camping at this time and maybe try in the spring. I didn’t want my running to interfere too much anyway. This will be my 4th time that I have run the race and my PR for the course is 2hrs 51min. I think that I can do better than that this year and I can make it under 2:50.

I did not have a chance to put any pictures up, nor work on the website at all. If I had a larger USB drive, I could carry our whole jenandterry.com website on it and be able to edit it from – wherever. Currently, the website resides on my computer at home and my side of the website is on my flash drive since it is only 11 MB. I have been playing the eBay game to try to get one cheap, but so far I have been out bided each time.

Saturday, Jen had her customer appreciation day at LyLy Nails in Knoxville and so the boys were able to cause havoc by ourselves. Well, we didn’t cause to much trouble. After getting Jen set up with her table and stuff, we went to the bike store to check out the used bike sale. I am looking for a beater bike that I can take to school with little investment (in case it vanishes). We also went to Blue Ridge Mountain Sports to look at kid carriers for Eric. We found one from Kelty that was really nice. It was the Back Country model and Eric was having a blast in it.

Eric was walking more this weekend. I did get video of it that I can download off the camera, so hopefully, that will be up shortly. Of course, I have been saying that I would update the website for how long now? I know, I know.

UT won their homecoming game against Louisiana Tech. This particular game was pay per view in the area, so we listened to it on the radio. Sounds like we might have a better idea of who the quarterback is going to be now. UVA won again too. They are doing very well this season, winning under the radar. Furman lost this weekend, but just barely. They lost in overtime to Pittsburgh (Div I-A) team, whom they were leading by 14 points in the 4th quarter. Green Bay also lost, again, this weekend.

Off to Boot Camp

My computer parts are in, so now it will be the weekend of computer repair. Jen is traveling down to Florida with Stacie, one of her consultants for a Mary Kay Boot Camp with her national sales director, Sylvia. She should be down and back before Ivan can rampage through the state of Florida. This leaves the boys to rule the household over the weekend. Not exactly sure what mischief we will get into, but with Eric, you never know.

I am going to volunteer at the Sept 11th memorial race tomorrow morning. I’m going to be calling mile splits from what I understand. This will be my first volunteering job, so I will be seeing the world from a different view being on the volunteer side. Plus, if you work 3 races you get enough vouchers to run a local race for free, so it all works out.

Last night, I ran some speed work called Yassos. I am pretty tired today, but I’m going to not run today and run some tomorrow. I just don’t know when because I will have Eric, might have to be on the treadmill. Oh yucky, that means that I will only get in 4 or 5 at the most. At least there will be football!!!!

You may or not have been able to tell from my website that I have been making some minor adjustments here and there. One big adjustment that I am making is the Update list on the bottom of this page will have active links to some of the pages that I have edited for easy surfing. I am also trying to uniform the style of all my HTML links through out my site. That is the links have the same color/style/font etc. This will take me a while for me to get it all worked out, but not unfathomable.

I am enjoying watching he Olympics on TV and am getting excited about the Track and Field events. I am especially excited about the Marathon and Triathlon. The track events are exciting, I prefer the 5k and lower, for some reason the 10k just isn’t as fun for me. My running is coming along nicely; I have the Scholar’s run scheduled for this weekend. My current PR for this race is 22:07 which was my 5k PR for sometime. However, they changed the course back in 2000 to something much more difficult. I prefer this course, but it is a good training course for speed and hill work. There is a killer hill near the end, which just not only is steep, but winds upward as well. The finish is slightly downhill, that makes it nice. I ran on the 18th at 5:15 in the morning around my neighborhood. This was the first time that I successfully made it out of bed at that hour to run. I managed 1.75 miles at a speed that I though was fast, but turned out to be slower pace than I thought (9 minute 1 second).

I have my sights eyeing the Rocket City Marathon in Huntsville on December 20th. Now, we are going to be in Orlando early in January, which coincides with the Disney Marathon. I am wondering if that is something that I can do as well. Jen P told me that if I sold Mary Kay products for her the profits would go toward paying for entry fee. The fee is close to $100, which is expensive for marathons! Rocket City is only $30 if I pre-register. So if you want to help me, shop online at Jen’s Mary Kay website (24/7) and put in the comment: Terry’s Disney Marathon. You’ll get some great products to make you look and feel great and I’ll be able to run Disney. WIN-WIN for both of us.

You probably notices the weather picture to the right of the screen. This is the current weather in American Samoa. That way, when I am there, you can see the weather that I am up against. It stays in the lower 80s almost all year round. We should be out of there before the rainy season (Dec-Mar). I am hoping to get to the National Park that is there. I will, at some point do some running while I am there to keep my training up to date

Dallas

Thank goodness we have AC now. Yeah Kelly, you rock!

Well, ALOT has happened since my last blog. I’ll try to keep things short and sweet. First of all, we went to Dallas, Texas for Jen’s Mary Kay Seminar. This is the annual event that where they celebrate the accomplishment of the past Mary Kay year.

It is broken up into 5 separate 4 day events because there are so many consultants that attend. The whole production is first class, being a a theatre geek in college, I can only imagine how hectic the crew are for 2 and 1/2 weeks!

We rented a minivan and drove with Diane and David Beshears down to Texas. The weather while we were there was OUTSTANDING. We had one of the coolest days in Texas history, it was cloudy during our driving (so no hot sun), we missed the rain the day we left. So we really lucked out on the weather. We stayed with Jen’s Parents during seminar, the Hyatt had a great setup, I just wish that I had more time to hit the pool and exercise room.

Since we arrived a day early for Diane, we were able to go see Nick and Leslie Rae and their son, Evan. I hadn’t seen Nick and Leslie in forever (since 2000) and this was my first time seeing Evan, who is a monster, and a very cute one at that. I also had the pleasure of seeing Nick’s little sisters Katie and Elaine, although, they are not little anymore. After 12 years, people do change just a little…

We dressed up for two nights of awards, the first for our “area” awards and then for the Mary Kay Corporate awards. Jen won the overall award in our area for recruiting, she was the Area Queen of Recruiting and won special recognition for this achievement. There are pictures on Jen’s Mary Kay Website, jenhiggins .com.

The job prospects have gone from nothing to a bunch! I had an interview on Friday with a company in Oak Ridge, I have an interview with UT on Monday. I have another company who needs to return my call. I got a letter today from the State of TN about a statistics job. Also, The local community college may want me to teach, I have to wait to hear back from them. So things are looking decent at this point. I hope to know something by the 7th or just after.

This month’s running has been pathetic, 6.6 lousy miles. Sheesh. Have a great June and then nothing. On the other hand, training for the Richmond Marathon starts tomorrow. Seeing that we might be in Knoxville, I’m setting my sights on it.

End of March

A couple weeks go by and I get another chance to update my website. Actually, a lot has happened since my last entry and I will try to give a short update of what transpired.

We went to Atlanta the weekend of March 13th for Jen’s Mary Kay. The trip went real well, Eric was a little under the weather, and he actually had two ear infections, but he is so well tempered that it didn’t really affect him. The next weekend we went to Orlando. That was a much longer trip, but we did break it up over a few days. As a result of that trip, I came down with something nasty. The doctor’s don’t know what I had, but it wasn’t Mono or Strep. I think it may have been some sort of sinus thingy that was kicking my butt all over the place. I am better now, although I was out of commission for a number of day last week.

Since our trips and illnesses, I have done no running. This week, I am doing the Spring Sprint in Alcoa. This race is part of the Ruby Tuesday Triple Crown of Running. I figure if there is a chance that I will be in Knoxville after graduation, that I should go ahead and do this race. Plus, I need to get into shape for the Trideltathon this year, I must beat Gray.

No real news on the jobs front. If you see any postings for Statisiticians, please email them to me. I would be most appreciative. Well, back to some school work…

Maybe Calhoun’s

Two weeks after that soccer game that I mentioned before, my knee is final on the way to recovery. It still has to scab, but since I have been coating it with Neosporin as much as I can, the scab is very thin and pliable. Something good for the joint that moves alot! I haven’t played soccer since or for that matter, run.

This past weekend was a big weekend for Jen P and her Mary Kay business. She was presented with her Red Jacket and a couple of her recruits had their debuts and skin classes. It was busy but we all made it.

Classes are going fine now, we are into the semester and the homework is flowing. So far nothing too bad, We’ll probably have our first test sometime in February but no date is set.

I am still thinking about running the Calhoun’s 10 miler tomorrow. I hope to run with Solange because she’ll keep me from burning myself out. If I don’t pace with her then I’ll run too fast and then I will bonk at mile 5 or 6. I have only run twice this January. The first run was 10 miles, the second was 6.6 miles. So I have run some distances but the time in between means everything, there was too much time
