Computer Movement in T minor

Let me just tell you that when our Computer Technician requests some time off, I will DEMAND to give authorization. Sure, I don’t have Supreme Executive Power at work, but I have been working my butt off this week. That is actually a good time because there is a little back there that could be worked off. Anyway, since coming back on Tuesday, I have been at the house next door working on moving computers upstairs and downstairs, and in this office and in that office. Thankfully, only two of the monitors were the HUGE old skool monitors. The rest were flat panel monitors and were so much easier to carry.

As a result of the computer movement, my time at work do to things for myself has been annihilated. Yesterday, I worked moving people starting around 11:00 until just before 5pm. (last week, I had one watch band break and my replacement watch… the battery died yesterday). I finally got to eat lunch when I got home and made dinner!

I promised that I had a bunch of Reunion Pictures and just plain old pictures to post… which I do. And so I probably should get those up, sooner rather than later!

That which of me, is mine

I’ve been thinking about writing this post for a while now and it seems that the days slip on by and nothing was getting written. Over two weeks and no post written on the blog about what I was doing or what was going on. I tried to microblog (facebook and twitter) but it still didn’t quench the thirst of writing. But I couldn’t write because I couldn’t get my thoughts down on paper (real or virtual), not even notes were helping.

Some of the greater episodes of creativity were during the church sermon, while listening to the pastor talk about that week’s theme, I could clear my mind and focus on the concepts that he was speaking about and tie that in with my own life. I had two book ideas come from the sermon and in their infancy, there is not much to say about them at this point. I’ve even started to think of writing a short story, but nothing has formed yet.

I’ve been riding the Knoxville Area Transportation, Knoxville’s public transportation and gazing out of the windows at downtown Knoxville, I think about all the pictures that are there, just waiting to be taken. I just found a way to carry Stella with me while I am taking the bus that allows me to carry the camera bag, but without it being cubersome (to hold). I still don’t have the courage to ask people if I can take their photographs of people that I see out on the street. I have shot a couple of birthday parties this year and I have been entertaining the idea of offering some sort of photography service as a way for extra practice and extra income.

Speaking of income, due to financial restraints and other important events, the trip to Niagra Falls has been put on the shelf. Despite the free registration, the amount of money needed to complete the trip is too much for our budget. So, unless I am handed some large bags of cash, there will be no Niagara Falls International Marathon for me. This means that I need to rerecord the content that I have to use for the next Gravity@1053′. That means that the Flying Monkey Marathon was my next race inked on my calendar. Well, except for the fact that it sold out in 9 hours!

As a former runner, we are giving a link a few days ahead to register before normal registration opens. However, with the way the timing worked, I wouldn’t have the funds to register until August 1st, the day that registration opened. I did not get to a computer that day, and so Sunday night (Aug 2nd), I went to go register and there was no more spots open. After being so excited to run this event for the fall, I can’t… until next year.

This leaves me with two options: Rutledge and Rocket City.

I am not sure that I would run Rutledge again, at least not anytime soon. It wasn’t a bad marathon, I’m just scarred from the condition on race day last year and don’t have a desire to do it. Rocket City is one that I have wanted to do for a while now. It is in mid-December and so training for it would coincide with what is shaping up in our household calendar now. It would count for the state of Alabama. My awesome runner|mommy friend Susan is going to be there and I could run with her. However, it’s 4 hours away and so there is the cost issue that could be the deal breaker in the situation.

of course, I would STILL need to make that training schedule that I have been talking about since June.

Rain or Flood

This week, when it has rained… it has POURED. One of the rains earlier this week lasted about an hour, but it filled up alot of my Hydrogen Dioxide Collection Units. Of course, with lots of rain in the forecast for the week, the only thing that my HDCUs will be good for will be breeding mosquitoes and other unwantables. I had wanted to go outside and look to see some of the drainage issue that my yard has (and it has alot) but as I was getting ready to head out, lightening flash and immediate thunder crash, sooooo, I just went back inside. Today we are expected to get some more wet weather.

Of course, all this wet weather has done NOTHING for my Topsy Turvytm plant. It died. However, the other tomato plants that I had bought, plus the tomato plants that my Father-In-Law planted are doing “marginal”. They seem to have decided to stop growing, despite the rain. I think on my biggest plant there were 2 blooms. Not tomatoes, but blooms. My cucumber plant on the other hand has about 20 blooms and 1 cucumber on it! It’s a very “stout” cucumber. It must be about 4 inches long, but 4 inchs in diameter. I’ll stop there.

I have to admit that this week at work things have been a little more relaxed with the workload. Although I am not back on my usual timeline of getting work done vs. getting Terry-work done, it is getting closer. I added a couple of links to the sidebars of my blog (in case you are ready this via Facebook Notes) and there’s a Geni link that I need to create as well. And if you haven’t already heard or read, I decided to sign-up for Twitter. 3 years of not signing up for Facebook or Twitter and now the circle is complete. And, as you may have guess, “planet3rry” is my ID on Twitter… that’s a no-brainer.

My running schedule is coming along, but still not written yet. I recorded some audio in the P3 Mobile Studio and I talk about that in the next episode of Gravity@1053 which should be out early next week. Perhaps by then, I will have that schedule written! I will be having a Long Run, tentatively planned for Saturday morning, and then maybe a short run on Sunday. And, I think and hope, that the schedule for the summer will be set and I will be able to make plans to work out at lunchtime and then I can add in swimming to my workout diet.

I do have a project on my list to create a HDCU of my own, using some parts around the house and a few other things. I should document the creation and post it… except that sounds a little like work in disguise. I did fix my lapel mic’s abilty to stay attached to my lapel with some good-ole 1980′s MacGvyering, but that was a fairly easy fix.

My Kingdom for a Key

Thursday is Terry day, that is, I have from 5-9pm to do just about anything that I want to do. The first thing that is on the list is to spend time with my guy friends, doing something manly like drinking beer and shooting pool or running or just drinking beer. I do have a CamelBak now and could Run and Drink Beer (hmmmmm). I also do other things like errands that revolve around me (window shopping for man bag go bag) or that are 10,000x easier to do without the kids (as in just about everything).Yesterday started no differently. Boring day at work (could you tell with the 4 posts?), surfing the web, watching me make money as the stock market took a little tumble. As the sun set on the day of work, the fun was just getting ready to begin. In the last 15 minutes of work, I started to shut everything down and gather my stuff together. I also pulled out the clothes that I would wear during my run with Soon-To-Be-Doctor David. Once the secretary was gone, I donned my running attire.

Everything was packed, ready to go. I staged everything in the foyer of the house (I work in an old 1940s house), so that I can put everything outside and then set the security system. I shutdown my computer and move everything out the door. I then get my work key out and my car key. Except that I can’t find my car key.

I just had my car key 10 minutes ago. Where is my car key? It’s 4:55 and I am going to meet David at 5:05pm. Where is that key. I come back in and look on my desk… nothing. I start looking around, not too panicked (yet) because I just had it. I rifle through the papers on my desk, not there. Look on the floor, not there. I then glance through the bags that I have and it’s still no where to be found. Now, I am starting to get upset.

I bring my bags back inside and proceed to go through them. I look through the dirty clothes bag from working out at lunch, I look through the bag that I put my work clothes in and there is nothing there. I look through my Man Bag Go Bag and there’s nothing there. I look through the bag that I carry my lunch, not there. I look through my saddle bag, nothing there. Damn, I have a lot of bags. NOT THERE!

It’s now 5:05pm and I have been looking for 10 minutes and it’s no where to be found and I am getting ready upset. I look through my desk for the second and third time, on the floor again and then through my bags again. Now, I am really upset because I am late for my running date and I can’t find the key that I just saw 20 minutes ago! ARGH!

It’s now 5:15pm and I conceed that I am not going to find my key any time soon. I knew that I could lock all my stuff up at my office, go run and then come back and keep looking. So, I stashed all my stuff, locked up and went to go run.

I wasn’t too happy when I met up with Soon-To-Be-Doctor David, but I knew that I needed to take myself out of the situation and reflect on Sherlock Holmes “We must fall back upon the old axiom that when all other contingencies fail, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth” and then the key’s location would be revealed to me.

I had a decent second run today, but I was still riled up about the key. David was nice enough to offer to call me when he was done showering to see if I had found my key. If I had, things were great. If Not, he could drive me home.

So, I head back to my office in the dark and when I get there the cleaning guy is finishing up. I ask him if he had seen a key and which he replied in the negative. Okay, so what to do? Check every place again…

I look through the dirty clothes bag from working out at lunch, I look through the bag that I put my work clothes in and there is nothing there. I look through the bag that I carry my lunch, not there. I look through my saddle bag, nothing there. I look through my Man Bag Go Bag and WAIT! What’s this? It’s my key hanging out in the pocket that I keep my office keys!

Could I have accidentally dropped my car key in there when I was getting my office key? Glory Be to the Father! Hur-RAY!!! WOO-HOO! Life is back to normal. Now, on with Terry Day with being about 30 minutes behind, no big deal.

[But the story doesn't end there]

I get all my bags together, set them outside, lock up the office and take everything to the car. I open the trunk, put my bags into the trunk and now I am ready to go. Except that when I look, I only have my office keys… WHAT? You have to be kidding me! I managed to have found my keys for all of 5 minutes, only to lock them securely in my trunk! My phone rings, it’s David.

“How are things?”

“Oh, good and bad,” I said half way chuckling. “I manage to find my keys but then promptly lock them in my trunk.”

So I waited a few minutes for David to pick me up and he took me home. It’s Thursday night and I am home and my car is at work. This isn’t too big of a problem, I can take the bus to work. I took My Lovely and Talented Wife’s car to the bus stop and locked the keys in the car, on purpose! She has OnStar, so it’s all good. She’ll arranged our Au Pair to take her to the bus stop, ring up OnStar and she’s good to go.

So, I’m on the bus heading to work. YAY!

[But the story doesn't end there]

Oh, no. I can’t make this up. Actually, I could but what I would make up wouldn’t be as funny AT me. So, I take the UT bus stop and have about 1/4 mile to walk. As I am walking I am thinking about what’s in my trnuk and whether I would need any of that today during work. I’m imaging myself seeing all my stuff in the trunk with my key laying innocently there. But then I think, how I am going to open the trunk? I never got the spare key. *crickets chirping*

oh yeah, that’s right! How many college degrees do I have?

[But the story doesn't end there]

I texted My Lovely and Talented Wife that I had left the key at home. Once at work, she proceeded to tell me that she can’t find the spare key… great. So now what? That’s our only spare. (One of my errands to run was to make more car keys)

Resolution: She did find the spare key and through a series of vehicle dosey-do, everything will fall into place, I hope. There is the small chance that I could lock the spare key inside the trunk with the other key at which we’d have to call a locksmith, but the chances of that happening are what? 1:1000 or so.

Vision

I thought the rain would never stop. But it did for a day or two, now our part of the world has to get back to normal. Nothing too new to report. I played soccer last night for the first time in a long time and it went well, I am not too sore. I have started a yoga/pilates workout to help improve my flexibility, I REALLY want to break 4 hours at Richmond.
