I played my first soccer game last night and things went real well. I called my physical therapist this morning and she cleared me fully. I am suppose to call her in one month, just to make sure that things are going well. So that is about it, I have the green light to get back to a normal sporting season. WOO-HOO!!

I didn’t get to play soccer on Thursday, so there is no real news to report. I thought I would be able to tell you how great things with the game, but alas, not. I do not know when my next soccer game will be so you’ll just have to check back at a later date.

That may have been the last time I needed to go to therapy. I am cleared to play indoor soccer (on 08-09), which will be my first full blown test of my leg. I have to call my therapist on Friday and let her know how I did in soccer. If it goes well, I probably will be cleared all-together. Meanwhile, I am to continue my running/jogging and strength training on the off days. That is going well. As you can see by the Terry-o-meter, things are going well.

Another successful therapy session. I am now really close to being able to play soccer and run at 100%. Now begin speed training to build my hamstring back up to full scale running which includes some interval and endurance running. I don’t go back until August 3rd… I am hoping that I will be cleared to play soccer then.

Another session of Physical Therapy yesterday afternoon and things are looking great for me. I no longer am getting the electrical stimulus or the heating, for my muslces. Now I am in the endurance and strengthening of my Hamstrings. I did more laps of the “scooter” as before. I also jumped over small cones, landing on my left foot only… is also helping with balancing. I asked my therapists when I might be able to back to soccer and she said about 2 weeks! Woo-Hoo! I am also doing a 1 minute walk and 4 minute jog every other day and if the weather holds, I will be doing that today. I have another appointment for next Tuesday.

I had physical therapy this morning at the crack of dawn. Which is nice since the building isn’t filled with tons of broken people (”I see broken people”), you get a little more attention. They have me warm up on the stationary bike and then do a variety of stretches. I did this one called the “scooter” where you sit on a wheeled stool and propel yourself by digging your heels into the ground. Really gives the Hammies a work out, plus it is fun. Kind of like rehab NASCAR. I got permission to do a walk/jog routine every other day. I walk for a minute and then jog for 2 minutes (sound familiar Devaney?). I am also doing some conditioning excercises with the hamsting machine for both slow and fast twitch muscles. So we will see how it goes over the weekend. My next appointment is Wednesday.

I go for my next physical therapy this afternoon and I have another scheduled for this Friday. So far, it is going very well. They hook me up to a machine that sends electrical currents down my leg and then take a sonicgram machine to apply heat. The theory is that the electical stimuli and heat help release toxins in the muscle and help remove scar tissue that developed as a result of the injuries. I did some ellipticla amchine running and biking on Sunday and everything went well, so things are still on for my marathon training!

I pulled my Hamstring playing soccer on May 3rd, rested for about two weeks, then reinjured it. About 2 weeks later I ran a 10k which was perfect except for the last 5 yards and re-reinjured. Rested for a bit, started conditioning again for soccer, played and re-re-reinjured my hamstring. So now I have an appointment for the doctor on June 27th, so my whole racing/training schedule is in Limbo. I am hoping that I will not miss Richmond 2001. When the diagnosis comes in, I will let you know.
I went to the doctor yesterday and he suggested physical therapy. Which is not too outlandish since I feel fine when I begin to get back into exercise and then I reinjure my leg. So whatever is wrong, it must be internal, pretty far too since I can not press on my leg to find any soreness. So now I have to schedule an appointment for therapy, but I may be up and running (no pun intended) by the end of July for Marathon training on August 1st.
