Early in the morning, platelets to donate

So this morning, I wake up around 6:45am with a slight panic because I donated platelets today at Medic Blood here in Farragut Tennessee at 7am. One thing that people don’t always address as a benefit of kids is their ability as alarm clocks. It’s not uncommon to be woken up around 6am to “Daddy… I’m hungry”, but since they are not here but on vacation I have had to fend for myself in the Waking Up Dept.

As I write this it is already tomorrow from the day of the story that will follow… that was yesterday but today, well rather, later this morning I am going to need to get up so that I can catch the EARLY KAT Express (102X), but the fact that I am still bleeding (that’s another blog post), I need to take a shower (that is NOT another blog post), start a load of laundry and a few other things is not helping. Plus I am sitting at the computer composing this blog post, which I am going to post right now and not wait… 1, 2 or 45 weeks to hit ‘Publish’

So I gave platelets this morning. I’ve tweeted-facebooked in the past some pictures of me donating, but as a courtesy I’ll try to warn ahead of time that I am going to send a picture with big sharp pointy needles and blood. For some reason, that creeps people out… kinda like spiders and snakes and a bad banana with a greasy black peel. So what’s it like to donate platelets you ask? Well, you get to be in what I like to call a “Donation Throne”, you get to watch TV or a movie and the place has free wifi, but you have to type with one hand because the other has a BIG FRIGGIN’ NEEDLE in it. Donating whole blood, if you do it right fast, can get you in and out in about 30 minutes from signing in to getting your refreshment. Platelets take a little longer because your blood gets to go on a little out-of-body journey. My average time for donating platelets is around 90 minutes or so. I chose to watch TV because we don’t have cable at our house. And what do I watch? Either VH1 for videos… because I found out that they STILL make music videos… no really! How so 1981ish. Or I watch The History Channel, if there’s something decent on… which today there was not at the time I was there.

So I caught a couple of videos of songs that I like and a couple of songs I hadn’t heard before. I was STOKED because they played “Sweater Song” by Weezer, but my Fave song was Weird Al Yankovic’s “Perform This Way” which is parody of Lady Goo-Goo GaGa. Weird Al was in Knoxville last year and sad that I missed him because who knows when he might return.

Okay, back to platelets. So they stick you with a need and suck out your blood (no ladies, no Edward for blood extraction) it goes through this machine and through the MAGIC OF SCIENCE, they keep the platelets and give you back the rest. The benefit is that since you get your blood back, you retain almost all of your body’s ability to move oxygen, so you don’t feel tired after donating. Since you get your blood back, you can’t really do the donate blood, go drink a nice tall 40oz, which I’ve never done (except in college). Also your body regenerates your platelets back pretty fast. When you donate whole blood you have to wait 56 days, unless you lie during the interview process. With platelets you have to wait 2 days, but there is a yearly limit to the donations… I’m not sure what it is and I probably will never look it up or retain that tidbit of information.

So now what is SOOOOOO special about platelets? I know they give it to cancer patients and transplant patients… but honestly they can do whatever they wish with it. But here’s the catch with platelets, they have shelf life of like 5 days where as blood has the shelf life of (The Hitchhikers Answer to everything in the Universe) 42 days. I asked if I should donate platelets, even though I am O+ (Universal Donor), and I paraphrasing here but they said “(@#$&*@#($&* NO We need as many platelets donors we can”, so then I said “Hell Yeah, I’ll donate platelets”. Here’s the bonus, remember when I mentioned earlier that you aren’t a cheap drunk you don’t have the acute fatigue from not having as much as blood to carry oxygen, well that means… hee hee… it doesn’t effect my running especially when I am in training for a race. I made the mistake of donating in the morning and then running in the afternoon… calf pains for MONTHS! MONTHS PEOPLE! No more donating, they going to 5k race 4 days later and not understanding why I had such a difficult race!

Medic Blood, as a marketing tool, to get people to donate will pay the fees associated with blood if you ever need it. You can even donate your units (that’s jargon they use) to special causes (like victims of domestic violence) or specific people (like estranged Uncle Stan who is getting a face transplant) [Ed. note: Apologies if you have an Uncle Stan who has had a face transplant, I was looking to offset the seriousness of domestic violence]. A platelet donors get TWO units to divvy out! Right now, our whole family is covered from blood expenses until 8/26/2054! I will be almost turning 83 at that point… and that’s just if I quit right now. I have no intention of stopping donating bodily fluids until they say that I can’t. But with so many units, I can donate them more freely now.

Oh look at the time… I have to try to take an extended nap so that I can take the bus into work tomorrow.

August Memoirs: I’ve got more runs

Here’s Part Two: I tried keeping the gross stuff to a minimum but I didn’t let it detract from cheap stabs (hehe) at humor.

August 21st: The $20 Run
Terry Run PictureOn Thursday’s, My Lovely and Talented Wife has her weekly meeting and Our Resourceful and Reliable Au Pair has the kids, so that leaves me with free time. Since Tuesday is Terry Day, I use this free time on Thursday to get stuff done around the house (after running). My initial intention was to run in the neighborhood, but My Lovely and Talented Wife suggested that one day I should ride with her to her meeting and then run home. This way we’d have more time together since she doesn’t get home from her meeting until after 8:30pm. I was already to run, so I told her that I would just go with her right then. I got my Road ID, my Driver’s License, $20 and my phone.

Half of the course is run on a road with no shoulder, so I am forced to run in the Right of Way area. It’s commercial zoned area, so there are no sidewalk, just 6′ grassy right of ways. It’s like cross country, except with traffic 5 feet away from you. The other half of the course is on sidewalks and other formed asphlate/concrete surface.

When I got to the intersection of Lovell Road and Parkside (a very busy intersection), I stopped and check my pockets… and what do I find… the plastic bag with the $20 (to protect it from being so sweaty if I bought a drink from a store) was GONE! Somewhere over the 3.1 miles to that point, I lost it. It must have just slipped out and was gone forever. And it was gone forever, I drove my route the next morning with no luck AND I ran the same route the next week and NOTHING. I just that whoever found it had a good time. I speculate that it was dropped near one of the restaurants and it was picked up by a patron and tipped the waitress well. That’s what I am thinking. This area doesn’t have a lot of wanderers, so I don’t think someone needy would have picked it up.

Addendum to August 21st: The $20 Run: Surgery
Well, I left something out on my route ($20) and I picked up something on that run (an infection). Some how, probably some friction of my toes during the run caused some irritation. Instead of going to a blister, it went straight to infection.

All day Friday, I could feel the sore spot on my big toe. It got to the point that it hurt to walk and seeing that I wanted to run on Saturday, that called for drastic measures: Surgery. I broke out my Time Life Book SeriesHome Surgeries. During family movie night, I sat down to inspect my foot. It was puffy like a blister, but didn’t have the “excess” skin that is created with the fluid built up. I deemed it time for some exploratory surgery and see just how much pain I could inflict on myself withstand.

As a runner, there are a few tools of the trade that are mutli-purpose tools, namely The Safety Pin. So, I grabbed one of the million that I have a safety pin, disinfected it and starting to do some exploratory data gathering. My first question was… what was causing the soreness? Internal pressure or possible bone breakage (my X-ray machine is on the fritz).

Once you get past the first stab stick, the rest are pretty easy. The first poke wasn’t fruitful, so I made another (what’s that word for impaling, but not impaling?) poke on the other side. Nothing. So what does any good scientist do? Think: What would Mr. Whipple Do? Oh, Squeeze. The external forces exerted on the sore area cause the internal pressure to exceed the integrity of the skin, notably at the poke holes, and like a volcano, I had the first oozing evidence that the source of my pain was indeed an infection.

Not to get too graphic (because I forgot to take pictures), I made more “pressure release” points about 7 in all and squeezed until there was no more juicy juice. My foot felt so much better! but I had to deal with these gaping holes. I put some pharmecutical grade of Melaleuca oil (Tea Tree Oil) and never had a problem or a flare up.

August 26: Long Run #2 with #2… twice
Tuesdays are my typical long run days. I can get 4-5miles in at lunchtime and then fill in the rest of the mileage in the evening. With it being early in the training cycle, the long runs aren’t all that long 8-12 miles, so I can skip the lunchtime runs (and the heat) and just run in the evening.

This day was slated for 12 miles and I had set it up to run 4 at lunch and 8 after work, but because it was so rainy-misty, I pushed everything back to after work. Since I was adjusting my schedule, I thought that I would run on a route that I was pretty comfortable with and close to my office. I made it down to the 3rd Creek/Neyland Greenway Junction and headed out West on the greenway. I decided that I would explore a (new to me) junction at the end of James White Greenway that connects to Morningside Greenway. With this connection, I could really get more mileage in a new place and get a long run of 20+ exclusively on Greenways.

Somewhat early in the run I got that “Do Not Call Phenomenon“. The bad thing for me was that I was far away from any bathroom as I was in the middle of the James White Greenway. The good thing was that I was very secluded on the greenway and there was a patch of overgrowth that I had imagined in my previous runs that 1) Either a Homeless person would live in there or 2) someone from The Mob would ditch a body in there.

But I added a 3rd idea 3) Make-Shift Porta Potty. So, I did my business and it occured to me that I should bring an antibacterial Wet-Wipe. They are small, light-weight and would be very handy right now. So, with that business out of the way, I continued on, feeling MUCH better.

Terry Run PictureI found the connector from the James White Greenway to the Morningside Park fairly easily. Although you have to go through a MAJOR intersection, it’s not very busy and so easy to manage. Morningside Park’s Greenway is really a walking path within the park. I say that because instead of stretch of fairly straight greenway (for running or biking), the greenway hugs the hill, creates a number of curves and has forks that split off from the main path for other parts of the park. So, this greenway’s main focus was for walkers, which is fine in itself, there is nothing wrong with that, it’s just different.

This also happened to be my turn around point for my Westerly run. I was running (approximately) 4miles out to the west, turn around and go back to the car for a total of 8 and then head out East for 2 miles and then back to the car for a total of 12miles.

On the way back, right near the place where I had stopped for a dumpster-doodle, I get a Call from Nature AGAIN. Ugh! You have got to be kidding. But seeing that I was in a good location and that I would never have made it to the nearest real bathroom, I went into the woods for the Second #2. This time, I was prepared and it was a much easier outing. With repetition comes skill – HA!

I head back out on the Greenway and have a decent 12mile run without anymore incidents!

Running: it’s in my blood
I have written before about times that I have donated blood and how much my running has sucked afterwards because of it. I received a postcard in the mail saying that it was time for me to donate again, and I thought, sure, I’ll do that NOW as I was still a number of weeks before my marathons. When I got to Medic, there was a sign out on the front lawn that there was a critical need for blood, so I was extra glad that I was giving that day, as I have O blood, which is the universal donor type.

Donating blood doesn’t stop me from running that day. I learned the hard way, that if I donate blood in the morning, I should not run 13 miles in the afternoon. Since it was Thursday, I did my now normal 6.1miles from My Lovely and Talented Wife’s meeting location to home. My time was slower than my previous run of the same course, but not too far off and I was pretty happy about that.

How Soon I Forget
Terry Run PictureThe last run of August was another run with the Double Stroller and the Kids for a 2.5mile run to the park, a rest time while the kids play and the 2.5mile run back. It’s not an easy run to begin with because 3rd Creek Greenway has a number of hills that aren’t very big, but have decent grade to them. Then there is whole approximate 70 pounds of kids and 30 pounds of Stroller to push around.

How quickly I forgot that I had donated blood when that run that day seemed extra difficult. WHY was I running out of breath so soon and WHY did I feel more tired at the park (turn-around) then I usually do at the finish. Then it occurred… Uh, you gave BLOOD on Thursday Doofus and it’s just Saturday… Saturday Afternoon in 90 degree heat… MO-Ron. Ahhhhhh, yes… that whole “You need blood to carry the oxygen” concept that I learned on School House Rocks! [YouTube Video] so long ago.

So that wraps up my “runs” in August! Of course, now I have September Runs to talk about!

Blood, Snakes, Utah

Looks like it’s going to be one of those Digest versions of the week. I did have some incidents that could warrant a seperate entry all to itself, but I ran out of time.

Monday: Terry Day got switched from Tuesday to Monday, so I ended up running 4.4 miles at Lakeshore under some beautiful conditions. After I ran, I made my way over to Panera Bread so that I could use some Wifi while I did some Stock homework for my up coming trip. I had planned on just getting a drink since Panera is the House of Gluten and I can’t really eat anything there. So, I am standing in line and an atheletic couple with their kid is ordering and the guys says he’ll have a salad. The dim lightbulb above my head brightened by 10 watts. Salad? He’s having a Salad! Can I have a Salad? I can have a salad! So, as I was on the computer I was eating a SALAD! And it was a good one too… only think “bad” about it was the casein in the cheese… but no biggie.

While I am at Panera. A mom’s group comes and sits down in the same “area” in Panera. This basically means that you are part of the conversation even if you didn’t want to be, it’s you just can’t chime in. This is why blogging when things happen is so much easier than one of these re”crap” posts. The mom’s group was pretty funny… to get away from their lives for a little sisterhood bonding over coffee in Panera, they sure did talk about their kids alot… oh and pregnancy… and epidurals… and childbirth… and their kids… and their friends kids… and the therapies their kids are taking.

So after I left Panera, I headed to errand run at Target. I did the “Perimeter Run” in Target to see if there were any good deals on the Clearance, but no such luck. I found some running shorts that I could use, but decided to just use what I have for right now. So I am in the check out… waiting… it’s almost close so there’s only one cashier open on the electronic’s side of Super Target.

I would have sworn the couple ahead of me was a Hooker and a Trick, based on the way she was dressed. Then I noticed how much they resembled each other… and so then it was just a father/daughter outing. But While I was paying, this woman is storming out of the store… walking fast with bags. Then you here “Hey, I am talking to you. Hello?”

“I’m talking to you,” he calls again as she is just out the store. She does say something to which you hear him reply, “Liar!” Oh, THAT’S going to end well tonight. Too bad there was a kid following the dad. I guess the woman could have been his daughter, given the fact that I had mistaken the hooker daughter earlier.

Tuesday: I gave blood: 1) I could give again, 2) I don’t have a race until the end of the month and 3) They called me personally to ask to give because they were short in the blood supply. I am in demand. Of course, now I am “untouchable” for 16 weeks. And I forgot to bring in my Super Donor card for my extra t-shirt.

Wednesday: Nothing Really to Report

Thursday: In our neighborhood, we have a neighborhood watch program which requires (loosely) to patrol the neighborhood once a year. This is a deterrent for criminal activity, but doesn’t deter houses getting Rolled (with TP). Thursday was our day… and out of ALL the days in the week, Thursday is the worst day. 1) I have the kids in the evening and 2) My Lovely and Talented Wife has her unit meeting that night.

So instead of the normal: Tub Time, PJs, Books and Lights Out, it was Get Your PJs On And Head To The Van!

Now, the last time we went into the van in PJs, it was BOOMSday here in Knoxville so The Elder asks, “Are we going to see fireworks?”

“Not this time.”

We drove around the neighborhood once and then parked near the entrance so that I could inspect the cars that were going in and out of the neighborhood and Make My Presence Known! The kids were watching a video and I even popped some popcorn for them while in the van with the hopes that they would fall asleep and I wouldn’t have to do anything but lay them in their bed.

After a while I felt the urge to go. I would taken care of it right there in the van, but I am still trying for that Parent of the Year Award and although it would have been resourceful, using the 20oz Diet Coke bottle as a portable receptacle was not really prudent with the kids. So, we went home, briefly.

We snaked around the neighborhood again looking at basically nothing. It had been raining all afternoon and there was not a soul outside. Not even some punk kids having fun in the rain. I did stop and unclog a storm drain that had been partially clogged from the Eucalypus leaves and pollen. There was a small dam formed and the water was backing up making a 6 inch deep area, that was about 3 feet from one of the “High Voltage” boxes in the neighborhood.

On our way back to the stakeout point, I saw something in the road. It looked like a curvy stick, but what’s better than a curvy stick? A SNAKE!

And that’s what I said, “A Snake!”

“Where?” questioned The Elder.

“In the Road, right here,” as I pulled upside it so that I could take a picture. I had Stella with me in case I needed photographic evidence of something. I took 1 picture and the batteries died. *sigh*

“You want to see the snake?”

“Yeah,” The Elder replies trying to get out of his seat, “I want to see the snake.”

“Me Too,” chimes The Younger.

“OKay, Hold On.” I back the van so that I can approach the snake from a safe angle. But I pulled The Elder out of the van and showed him the snake. This was one of those non-domesticated snakes. It started to pull it’s head up as if to say “My Dad was a Cobra and My Mom a Rattler… so Back off!” But seeing that the snake was almost accross the road, I put The Elder back in the Van and popped out The Younger.

By the time we got to the snake, it was almost in the woods. But he did get to see it move. Had I not been holding The Younger, I would have grabbed the snake out for a better view… but I didn’t, although I did touch the snakes tail.

So we went back to our stakeout place and we hung out here for a while. It was now dark and rainy and I couldn’t really see much of anything. By the time I got home The Elder had fallen asleep, YES! But The Younger was still (wide) awake, DARN! So, it sorta worked out.

Friday: After 3 days of not working out, I finally decided to run. My intention was to do 5 miles, but once I got started, I bargained with myself to do 4 miles. But the 1st mile was REALLY hard. I could not figure out why it was so tough. At the end of the 1st mile, that I would only do 2 miles with a long walk break in between. As I was walking, I realized that I did give blood this week and this was the first workout since then. So, I wasn’t so upset that 2 miles was about to kill me.

Next Week: I will be in Utah for most of next week at Trading Education Seminar. Although I will be very busy, I will have computer access, so maybe I can catch up on some people’s blog and actually leave meaningful comments. Maybe even work on a little Gravity while I am there!

Slow Tuesday

Today ended up being a rest day. I was going to swim but I am not a chipper puppy right now. I gave blood yesterday and I think I'm a little rundown from that. So, I thought that I would skip the workout in case my immune system isn't up to snuff.

Also, I think I may have strained my diaphragm from Sunday's run. It is still bothering me today and I am unsure what to do to fix it. Maybe'll put a heating pad on it tonight even though I got a ton of things to do at home tonight.

On a good note, I won my second fantasy football game this weekend. I am now 2-11! Way to go Team Incognito, even though Hasselbeck didn't perform all that well, it was enough to beat the Dirty Dog!

Blood

By the time I made it to campus, I realized that I had forgotten everything that I needed to work out. I had no extra towels, no swimsuit (although I could manage) and no socks (YIKES!!!). SO I could have swam today, but I would not be able to dry off effectively.

Now, as I sat at the desk thinking of what I could do for the hour, I looked at my calendar and sure enough, the words Donate Blood were the first thing that I saw. Taking it as a sign, I went and donated blood at lunchtime today. So I am the proud owner of another Medic shirt (a donation to be for the Hurricane Relief) all for the price of 16oz of my O+ blood. My iron content was 43%, blood pressure 130/80, pulse 60 and temperature 36.6 F and an otherwise normal donation. I'll be getting a gross cholesterol letter in the mail in about 4 weeks, so I will be anxious to see how high that is.

well, tomorrow, big plans… rolling out my photoblog at noon, date night with Jennifer and oh yeah, having a birthday. Cheers!

18807

Yesterday I gave blood at my church for the Medic's blood drive they have there twice a year. If there are 70+ donations, then the cost of blood is covered through Medic. So, since I give 4 times a year anyway (since I still am qualified), I make my contribution here. Well, it was like all the other times… sign in… answer questions… give blood… eat cookies… get t-shirt. I wish they wouldn't buy the super huge XL shirts. I can't really complain because they are Free, but the XL is sooo big from their manufacturer that the shirts are useless to me. I end up sending them with the In-Laws as clothing donations to the Philippines during their medical missions. I also donate many of my race shirts that suck… why do I need to wear them? I'd love to have one of those T-shirt quilts made with my marathon shirts, but that is extra money I don't have. Maybe Later.

As I was plundering through a list of running community blogs, I discovered a program called Word Press. This is software that lets you have a blog on your own website and you host the program on your own server. It has many features that Blogger or LiveJournal have and so I investigated it out just a tad. I was able to get it loaded onto the jenandterry.com site and it worked. So, I will report more on it later. I am pretty sure that I would keep my LiveJournal Account, but that I might shift Eric's blog over to there as I can keep this more for Running.

Since I gave blood, no work out yesterday. I was running so incredibly late today that there will be no working out at lunch (no clothes) AND because I have moved my tutorees timeslots earlier… no workout tonight. I will have a chance to workout tomorrow evening, but that is only if I can get the forces of nature to work in my favor. Ideally, we can get 10 new team members today and then I can workout tomorrow without any guilt.

Here is a picture that I took on Friday while I was going to work. I LOVE having my Dimage X20 with me. It is so small and compact with a quick boot up that I can take decent pictures very easily. The picture is of the Sunrise while traveling East on I-40.

I vunt to suck your blood

Yesterday was a really long day and I did not get to see Eric at all. Poohey.

I made it into work at a decent hour yesterday, hopefully I am on schedule again. Seeing that I woke around 5:30 yesterday and today. Although today my eyes were very heavy and I proud that I did not fall back into bed for that extra 5 minutes (read 15 minutes) of sleep. Jen and I have a Free Trade coffee – French Roast in the rotation right now, that helps with the 5:30am sleepiness. Also, Jen earned a FREE under the cabinet CD/Radio player from Mary Kay, so I can now have a radio in the kitchen in the morning. To hear the inane conversation of the local radio stations does help with staying awake in the morning, it’s my daily dose of pop culture.

I started to plan my route for the Mr. Arfns Marathon, which is only a run that I started back in 2001 when my friend Devaney was training for the Marine Corp Marathon (His first). He came down to Knoxville for my birthday which happened to coincide with his Marathon Training, in fact, it was his long long training run. So as an incentive, I told him that I would run with him and so I constructed the Mr. Arfns Marathon that ran from Volunteer Landing to Faragut for a total of 26 miles. I even produced T-shirts for all of the runners, each shirt was unique. Funny thing though: I have yet to wear mine once. Regardless, we had 6 runners at the start and due to schedules, it was just me and Devaney at the end. We did a 4/1 run/walk routine, which is run for 4 minutes and walk for 1 minute and we did this at Devaney’s pace. Despite it being a slow pace for me, I think the experience is what allowed me to achieve my marathon PR time of 4:09 at Richmond that year. Anyway, this past December, one of the runners suggested that I should bring it back which I had been contemplating because I need a long run of 20+ mile for the Knoxville marathon training. So, yesterday, I started downloading jpg off of mappoint.com so that I can construct maps to figure out the actual course. I’ll then use a program called USA photo maps to figure out the distance so that I do not have to drive the course to find out the mileage. Although Knoxville has a strong running community (we have been called “Little New York” by Runner’s World) the roads here are not runner-friendly, hence our extensive but choppy Greenway system. The course is ran on some Greenway, some sidewalks, and some fend-for-yourself roadways but it will get me from one end of the city to the other with stops at convenient stores on the way. In 2001, we actually had a support crew of Jen and Andy that drove to places along the course with water and bagels. I am not sure if I will have that same support this year, so I want the route to run past these places so that I can replenish when it is necessary.

While thinking about my training runs for the marathon, I saw that my Church’s Blood Drive was on the 26th and that the Calhoun’s 10m was on the 29th. Since I wanted Calhoun’s to be a race rehearsal and warm-fuzzy, I have come to realize (the hard way) that when I give blood, I will not perform well at a race a few days after the donation. So that I can still give blood but also race Calhoun’s I decided yesterday that I would stop by Medic before I went to go tutor. It wasn’t a bad experience, although it was not a very good one. First of all, I was not prepared because I had on a long-sleeved tshirt AND a sweater. So I had to take my sweater off, so I was in a Umbro Tshirt and Corduroy pants (goofy lookin’). Next, I had a new employee, which she did a fine job, but when it came to declare that I had been out of the country to American Samoa, it took about 5 minutes to get the correct wording on the paperwork. Good news though, I do not have to mention it again (you usually have to declare leaving the country for 3 years). Next, I am usually a good bleeder. I have easy veins to find, but yesterday, it took me over 12 minutes to donate a pint. In fact, the lady had to come over after about 5 minutes to “fish” for a better connection into the vein. But I finished, I got my Tshirt, Cookies and soda and was off to tutor.

my second job that I have is that I tutor for the athletic department two nights a week. On Tuesdays, I am at the Math Lab and on Thursdays, I have appointments. In the Math Lab we get a variety of different classes. Most of the classes are the basic classes that the student has one or two questions about the homework. I have yet to have a student who is completely hopeless at learning the subject. I really enjoy tutoring and when Jen becomes a Elite Executive Sales Director and I can retire in two/three years, I would love to continue to tutor, it would be a great part time job.

So a new dilemma has arisen. In Feb, Jen is going to Myrtle Beach for a debut of some of her consultants and this falls on the same weekend as the Strawberry Plains Half-marathon. So, do I let Jen take Eric to Myrtle Beach, or do I watch Eric over the weekend and NOT run the race or do I go with them and run the Myrtle Beach Marathon as Dress Rehearsal for Knoxville (it would 4 weeks away, so I could run it slowly and be okay). I have run Myrtle before, so it would not be a new marathon and it would be $65 as opposed to like $12-15 for Strawplains.
