Hey! It’s My Lovely and Talented Wife’s Birthday Today! She’s coming back from Charlotte, NC but go over to her website and leave her a birthday wish… or send her a birthday gift (I’ll take care of the spankings).

Photo Hunters: High

This Week’s Theme: High

high

This picture was true taken in true photo “hunt” style. I took this today during my trail run. After not coming up with anything good for the theme “high”, I was upset. Then while getting ready to run, I thought, “HEY! I could take a picture at the top of one of the hills”. I knew that they were building a subdivision and I could get a good shot. However, I was not expecting this pile of wood debris they put up as a “fence” to the neighborhood. So, here is this week’s photo taken from my mobile phone (that is why the quality stinks)… and if you want the double entendre of this week’s theme… the subdivision is a group of “high” end homes. Have a Great Week!

That’s My (FREE) Stapler

The 1999 movie Office Space really has some sustain substance to it. I mean… “does someone have the case of the Mondays?” and, Dr. Cox was in there and Orlando Jones of Sprite Commercial Fame is there and that girl from that show about friends or something and there’s the sit-com “The Office”. But I think that Milton:

stapler

was the most memorable. How often does a character essentially Brand a company into our brains (except for Duff Man, of course)… especially when it comes to office products? As far as I know, I don’t have a brand of 3-Ring Binder in my head but I do for staplers… SWINGLINE.

they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn’t bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it’s not okay because if they take my stapler then I’ll set the building on fire…

Excuse me, I believe you have my stapler…

So here is YOUR chance to get a free Swingline Stapler. It’s a ridiculously easy survey (toolkitsurvey.swingline.com) to take so you better hurry!

Fellow Fraternity Brother

Okay… this is a SHOUT-OUT to one of my fraternity brothers who is a detective in the Richmond Police Department. He is highlighted in this A&E video clip:

Det. W. Thompson
(click on image, webpage will open in a new tab/window)

I got to run with him for a little while in one of my outings at the Richmond Marathon.

Okay, criminals… if you are in Richmond and you commit a crime, you better hope your punk ass doesn’t get my brother Det. Thompson on your case… he’s going to sniff you out and make you pay!

The Mysterious Aspergers

This Article has been around for some time now (Aug 2007). It’s the New Yorker article about Tim Page, an adult with Asperger’s, he recently spoke at the University of Missouri and here is the student newspaper article about the event. (Thanks to Redheaded Editor for the link)

It’s a nice article because it’s not as cumbersome as the New Yorker Article, but it does highlight a few typical Aspergian traits.

the part that struck me was the last two lines of the article:

”MU freshman Simone Francis, a journalism student who attended the event, said she had never heard about Asperger’s syndrome.

“It’s hard to grasp a problem like that when you don’t know how it feels,” Francis said.”

And the winner is…

Yes, there was a winner in the official Planet3rry Ass Mirror contest. The finalists were:

Stacie: with Tuesday and No Flaws

DPeach: with Tuesday and something wrong

So this is how I see the package on the porch

mirror

You can see that the box isn’t all that pristine and check out this picture… the mirror is just SCREAMING to be an Ass mirror. See that “crack” between the L and A?

close up

Once inside the house, I proceeded to open it like a surgeon (cut for the very first time) to ensure that IF I found something wrong with it, I could repackage it really easy. Although I am a pro at packaging this item… *sigh*

Unveiling

So far so good. (on a side note, you can see the waterfall of blood from The Younger from the other night… like Stacie… my kids have been having nosebleeds, but for different reasons).

further packaging

Despite the styrofoam being broken in a couple of places, the mirror was in decent shape. Plus the new color we got was much more appealing.

awwwww man

But WAIT! What’s this? What is that light spot on the wood next to the mirror? A blemish! MOTHERF$#*&$#*&$! darn.

That’s right… the mirror did have a blemish on it. It’s noticeable but not terrible. My Lovely and Talented Wife decided that she can live with the blemish and here it is in all its GLORY [Trumpet Sound]:

fini

Excuse the mess… it was a Man Work Zone. The place it much cleaner… except that The Kids found a new mess to make.

So that makes the Winner DPEACH

And tell them Kent what DPEACH has won!!!

“Well, Melman, DPEACH has won exactly ONE box of Snapple’s Orange-inality Herbal Tea! That’s Right! DPEACH gets his very own 20 pack of nutritious and delicious tea for his very own brewing please. Not only do these tea bags brew a nice cup of tea, but the leaves are biodegradable and make a great mulch.”

So Thanks for playing… Stay Tuned for the Next Contest Brought to You by Kent and Melman!

Their broadcast will run from 8 a.m. (ET) until 3 p.m. (ET). WBZ-TV, now a partner of the Boston Athletic Association for 28 years, will be the only local television station providing live wire-to-wire coverage.

VERSUS will once again televise the Boston Marathon for the fourth consecutive year. The telecast will air from 9:30 a.m. (ET) to 12:30 p.m. (ET), making the Boston Marathon the only road race in the United States to have a complete, live, national telecast. The 2008 Boston Marathon will be held on Monday, April 21, 2008, Patriots’ Day in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The race will begin with the Elite Women’s Start at 9:35 a.m.”We’re excited to once again partner with WBZ-TV and VERSUS to make the Boston Marathon the only U.S. road race to air live, wire-to-wire, locally and nationally,” said Guy Morse, Executive Director of the Boston Athletic Association. “Boston is one of the most prestigious races in the world, so it’s fitting to have such respected outlets as television partners so that our race can be enjoyed by fans around Boston and across the country on April 21.”

Established in 1887, the Boston Athletic Association is a non-profit organization with a mission of managing athletic events and promoting a healthy lifestyle through sports, especially running. The B.A.A.’s Boston Marathon is the world’s oldest annual marathon, and the organization manages other local events and supports comprehensive charity, youth, and year-round running programs. Since 1986, the principal sponsor of the Boston Marathon has been John Hancock Financial Services.

I got a Marathon in a few days

That’s right! Terry has a marathon (to be a volunteer for) on Sunday. I was just getting all excited about doing this when my Team Leader comes and drops off my packet of stuff at work! Talk about service.

My shift is going to be near the end of the race, within the last 0.5 mile at the intersection where I direct the 5k people in one direction and the kids and other racers in another. Based on the race starts, there should be no over lapping. I will be too close to the finish to have my standard fare of Pretzels, Gummy Bears and M&Ms, but I will have some water out there for the people struggling at the very end. After all, you have to look good for the camera!

Volunteers Prevent Chaos

I’m at that blue dot on the map. I’ll run that part of the course tomorrow and probably Friday so that I will know what to expect and know what to tell the runners.  So, I don’t think any of my readers are going to be running Knoxville on Sunday, but if some reason you are… scream your name, I’ll be recording the next Gravity at that time. Plus I am going to have Stella there and if you want a “Foto voor geen geld”, let me know and I would more than happy to oblige.
