Turning off my Brain
Filed under: Life In General;5 CommentsI have GOT to stop writing stories in my head. First, there was the delusion of granduer to write a short story about the Big South Fork Run. A nice fictional story about a runner, running in Big South Fork, perhaps named Terrence, or T3rrence, I dunno. Anyway… after writing the story in my head for half an hour, it was completely forgotten. Gone or at least filed in the Mental filing cabinet under “Black Hole: Million Dollar Stories.”
And I was doing that on Monday with blog posts as well. Curse You Creative Neurons!!!! But, I have found a way to stop the madness and “Save the Story.” When I think of something that I want to write about, I try to make a new post and put a working title. Looking at my Dashboard, I see 3 posts (one about my running this week, one about Halloween and one about food I cooked this weekend). Thankfully, I don’t have a clue what I was originally going to say, so that when I start pounding on the keyboard, it’ll come back. Maybe not as eloquently as I would like, but it’s still there.
Taking The Elder to school this morning I was thinking of a story and told myself “Stop! Save it for later.” I found a flaw in my system… I forgot what the story was about. *frown and grimace* I can visualize where I was but not what I was thinking…

You need to start carrying a micro-voice recorder so you can easily capture your thoughts for later reflection!

I tend to forget what I want to talk about… hence, my yellow stickies EVERYWHERE. Ick. I hate those things!

Now you know why I call you every time a thought comes into my head and I’m near a phone…

I compose well thought out and provacative entries while on the run, but as you see they never make it to the keyboard. It is unfortunate. If you could invent something that transcribes the thoughts we be golden or in a heap big mess of trouble.

Borg (Star Trek) comes to mind, but resistant is futile
