If Bono was a running

“I Just Found the Pace I was Looking For “

I have climbed highest mountain
I have run through the fields
Only to be with you
Only to be with you

I have run
I have crawled
I have hit the proverbial walls
These proverbial walls
Only to be with you

And I just found the pace I’m looking for
And I just found the pace I’m looking for

Bono might just be a runner for all I know. It’s a busy schedule to help save the children of Africa and to set the trend for the upcoming sunglasses season, but you never know about those celebrity types…

But what I am excited about is that I found my pace for today and I found it early too… I think I was 10 steps into my run when I said, “This is it.” (And that’s no Huey Lewis and The News either). I marked my first quarter mile to see what the pace was (as I don’t have a omnipotent Garmin) and to see if I could keep it during my run this afternoon.

The pace was 2:13 for a quarter mile or about a 8:52 mile. Hmmmm… a little fast, but that was about right. I didn’t think that I would be able to keep it up because I was still sore from Monday and Tuesday.

I was actually slated to swim this morning but UT is overtaken by Destination Imagination kids, who are here for their Global Awards week. So, the pool was packed and there was no way that I would be able to get anything productive done in the pool. I had planned on swimming 800 meters and then reading some Jack Daniels. No, that’s not drinking Jack, it’s reading Jack Daniels… the running coach…

I hit the first mile in 8:55, BOO YAH! That was it, right on the money. It even felt right because I still felt strong and that I would be able to keep that pace up for at least another mile. Not only had the DI kids taken over UT, but there was alot more vehicular traffic and people traffic around downtown and in areas were it’s usually void of human presence.

When I felt that I was speeding up, I could slow back down to the pace. Well, that’s until I ran into the populous downtown/Market Square area. I always run faster for the crowds, must be my desire to be in the spot light or my “hey, look at me but don’t point and laugh”. Mile 2: 8:36.

So, I wasn’t expecting much in my Mile 3 run with Mile 2 being alot faster. But what do I know… Mile 3: 8:42. Now, I was definitely going to make the last mile a recovery mile. So, I stopped and walked. My plan was to stop and walk for a small section then run for a bit and walk again. I did this for the entire mile and the overall time reflects this with a 10:41 average. However, I ran the last 0.3 of a mile and the time of the last 1/4 mile was 2:08, which is about the same as the first quarter mile! Score!

So, I had a great tempo run today and that makes tomorrow a rest day. I doubt that I will be able to swim with the DI kids and I don’t want to run 4 days in a week, at least not yet. I may have an opportunity to run some mileage on Saturday if all goes well as planned. So we will see.

Look for a new episode of Gravity tomorrow. I only have to record two small sections and it will be ready.

I posted yesterday that I was getting a replacement table for the cracked one that we unknowingly bought. Well, it went really really well! We have a new table without any cracks.
