I had wanted to go swimming today. I didn't want to run today but rather take today as a crosstrain, break from running day. But that was not the case.
The aquatic center is under maintenance this week as they prep for the beginning of the school. The indoor pool is completely drain… empty. What this means is that all the priviledged people who swim inside during the week were forced to more outside. With the lanes still in the 800m configuration, the number of lanes was only 8, as opposed ot the 12 when the pool is in the 25 yard configuration. Swimmers were doubled up in the lanes, so I had a decision to make.
I could either just sun tan, but I had nothing to read OR I could go ahead and get my running shoes on and go somewhere. Since I didn't plan on running, I wasn't sure whar route to take. Also since I didn't plan on running, I didn't bring my MP3 player… lack of motivation. I decided that I would make an attempt to run… somewhere.
Leaving the aquatic center, I actually just walked around and wandered thinking… where would I run… I was indecisive. I did make the decision to run about 20 minutes, that should put me around 2 miles if I did a nice slow easy run 10 minute miles. I finally figured out what I would do… I would run though campus, go from one end of campus to the other and I could manage the distance or rather the time, so that it would be about twenty minutes.
I ended up cutting through around campus, running on side streets and sidewalks. It was actaully pretty comfortable in the shade while running. It ended up not being a bad run as I thought it would be. I ended up running 2.1 miles in 19:46… so I hit both my goals… a little under 20 minutes and a little over 2 miles. I tried to avoid the big hills on campus and so I just plodded along.
Even though I am passionate about running, there are sometimes when I just don't want to run. We all go through it, I ended up forcing myself through the 2 miles. I feel better about the run as I blog about it more than I did when I finished it this afternoon. Tomorrow, I know that I won't be swimming but I will be running… 4 miles… Tempo. If the weather would cooperate I would like to get 2 miles of speedwork to help me during my 5k race on August 19th.
