I did two things today that I have never done before. Well, at least not in this manner. The first thing that happened was that I forgot my socks in my office. I contemplated not running but going swimming, but wanted to get some mileage in today. So, I decided that I would go out without socks, but monitor my feet with extra care to avoid blisters.

I made it out in about a 1.5 miles before things started to fall apart. At about 1.7 (I was planning to run 5 today), I started to feel a little heat in my right arch, so I decided to stop and tighten my shoe s tighter to elimate the rubbing. After tightening my shoe I took about 10 steps and realized that I was not going to avoid a blister on my arch if I continued. So, in a quick decision, I decided to turn around back for the showers. In another quick decision, I took my shoes off to and began to run barefoot. I was cautiously uncomfortable about stepping on something as I headed back. Unfortunately, there was not alot of grass on the way back and I started to get a blister on my big toe. I made it back okay, but gave up on a good time as I was just trying to get back. My feet are a little damaged but nothing a few days won't cure and tomorrow is a swim day, so that is a bonus. Here are the split time of what I did today:

Split Split Distance Overall Distance Split Time Split Pace Overall Time Overall Pace
1 1.0 1.0 7:46 7:46
2 1.4 2.4 11:49 8:27 19:36 8:11
3 1.0 3.4 11:39 31:16 9:12

Hmmmm… not too bad for half with shoes and half with bare feet but my feet are pretty beat-up right now. I am not worried about it.
