Hill Analysis

Another NWW (No Weekend Workout) mainly because of Little Ryan and his ability NOT to sleep. What it does is push the envelope of sleep on the weekend to about 6:45, the 15 minutes of twilight before Eric wakes up. My personal time is generally the time I wake up until Eric wakes up, then it's Eric breakfast time. During the week, I get up inconsistently between 5am and 6:30am, so that doesn't help with any early activity. Once the UT students are back in school and I am tutoring, that might change at least the weekday routine. For my weekend routine, Ryan needs to be sleeping through the night on a consistent basis. Once that happens, I think that my morning will become predictable.

As for today, my run was very consistent despite the heat. The Weather Channel read 86 (feels like 94) when I went to the Aquatic Center. I ran very consistent for the first 3 miles, or a 24:48 5k type pace in the shadeless high heat and humidity. Even though the last mile was a minute slower, I was still happy with the outcome. I decided to do a little homework and see what type of a hill it was because it is a rather gut-wrenching hill, what I found out was that hill is 0.3 tenths of a mile and the overall hill is a grade of 6.2%. Breaking the hill down even further, there is really 2 hills, the first is a 0.1 mile 6.8% grade and the other is a 0.2 mile 6.2% grade. So it's a workout! And as Frank Shorter (1972 Olympic Marathon Winner) is quoted as saying “Hills are speedwork in disguise.”
